After my high school obsession with Powerpuff Girls, I really shouldn’t be that surprised that I was assimilated into the Brony herd so quickly. However, I think that it takes a bit more tact to explain a 26 yr old man watching, drawing, and blogging about magical ponies than it does to explain a 14 yr old fanboy of an ironic comedy about little superheroes. At any rate, the time has come for my new self-portrait. Yup, you guessed it… I’m a pony in it. Deal with it.

Typically the term for older or grown-up, male fans of the "My little Pony" franchise. But since there is no common and nalog term for female fans of the show, brony can as well be used gender-neutral.

Brony 1: Well, although I am male and grown-up, I actually like watching this new "My little Pony" show.

Brony 2: Don't worry, it's cool! We also do. Welcome to the herd, brony.

Okay, I am now, officially, a loser. But a loser with a Phineas & Ferb self-portrait! Creepy? Yes. But I'm sure that anyone who beholds this latest work of art will bow in respect to this master of awesomation. Now, some simple folk may say this "bowing" is more like "gripping a downcast forehead in disappointment"... to which I shall reply,"HA!" and aslo, "That is only true sometimes!" Oh man! I love this character! She’s not nearly as much of a comedic character as Candace on the show, but her archetypal cute little girl-scout with the essential school girl crush character-type is one of the reasons so many of us can connect with the show. Ya'know, I had to see whether I still had some juice left in me for art if I'm gonna consider being a computer animation major.

As usual, I've been completely obsessed with a new cartoon on the air. For the first time since as long as I can remember (roughly several months on avg.) Disney Television has produced something worth me not vomiting and yet still finding the vomit to be a more fulfilling pastime than to suffer the excruciating lack of creativity in shows like Suite Life! But I digress, the hit series 'Phineas and Ferb' is quite possibly the funniest, most creative, and highest quality cartoon in production! Hopefully, you'll be seeing a lot of little gems like this one coming up in the near future ;)

I know, I know. I almost never make either of my readers have to strain for dear life as they grit their teeth in excruciating anticipation for my drawing of the quarter. But this time you do. So just get over it, mom. And as for my second reader, (luscious35 from aim) for the last time, I will not sign up for a membership to view your personal profile!

Now, about this motley crew of strange images beneath the text… Lemme begin with a tale from long ago and far away.

It was Krystina’s birthday and my 4 or 5 year old little sister, “Colie”, decided to honor the occasion with a festive cheer. So, she began with jubilant confidence:
“Gimme a F!”
Krystina smiled, “F!”
“Gimme a O!”
“O!”
Colie didn’t hesitate, “Gimme a S!”
“S!”
“What does that spell?!”
Krystina replied in a hilariously quizzical tone, “Fos?”
“No, Birthday!”
“oohhhhhh… Birthday!”

This story is still a big hit on any of my 6 siblings’ birthdays. Why, you ask? I dunno, but at least this time it includes Baman and Piderman.

Birthdays seem to be the only thing that keep me drawing lately. This one is done by everyone’s favorite mood setter… the Awkward Turtle! You really gotta love this guy; not only can he turn almost any completely unsettling situation into a festive game of hip sign language… but he comes with an all star posse who can fill in when he’s out saving the world! You know awkward turkey, awkward moose, awkward starfish, and my new favorite: the awkward backpack!
I actually drew this deliciously questionable piece as a birthday card for my friend Nardeen; complete with a quote to make even the weirdest of folks scratch their head in confusion…
“Awkward turtle would like to bite your finger.”
In case you didn’t guess, there is a bit of an esoteric side to this one. The finger biting gag is in reference to the youtube vid “Charlie bit my finger”. If you haven’t seen it, WATCH IT!!! In the mean time, u can trust good ol’ turtsy here will be waiting for you when you come back… waiting… staring… awkward…

I rarely to never get serious with my posts, but I was moved to literal nausea when I came across this dreadful garbage!

It’s sad that this is the image we portray to the web surfing non-believer. They see us as a club or culture that only differs from them in the level of perceived judgmental hypocrisy. How can we claim to be different when we are utilizing the same tactics of lust and greed to entice and ensnare. Mind you, most of these “Christian Dating” sites (an interesting oxymoron which I touch on often) are run by secular businesses who also run homosexual dating sites, swinger sites (that’s a married person with extramarital relations), and every other vile practice imaginable; there’s a hook-up site to match any fetish.

So which lure do they use on compromising Christians? Easy, throw some Christianese in the mix and abstain from nudity on the site and you can still dupe a believer into spending God’s money to stray from God’s plans and intentions for singlehood and marriage. You can read my 12 page report on the matter of dating in and of itself on my myspace (look up crimsonbirth@hotmail.com); In which, I was not able to address the issue of “Christian Dating” sites. However, just take a look at one, do the research, and you tell me where this fits in with God’s perfect will (not permissive).

I know I’m walking on thin ice with this one, I know I will offend many and hurt some feelings. Just know that this post is an assault against none other than the websites themselves, no Christian participants or resultant couple thereof. Once more, this is not against anyone I know, only the incongruous business of trafficking lonely, out of focus hearts by worldly, Godless means. I’m sorry for the hurt feelings, but I pray everyday for the revival of Godly romance and surrendered singlehood. Please join in my prayers!

Panini

I Love Chowder! It’s a hilarious show that embodies my sense of humor completely! One character who I find particularly amusing is Panini. She’s a boy crazy pink rabbit with killer eyelashes and an obsessive crush on Chowder, (which is the premise for my favorite catchphrase of the show… “I’M NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND!”) hahaha… so true…
Really, I never get to watch it unless I’m visiting my dad and the kids in SoCal, so it’s certainly a nice treat every time I come over. One thing I noticed about Panini, though… she seemed strikingly familiar. I googled cartoon girl bunny images (not a good idea if your adult content block isn’t on… eeesh!) and lookey what I reckognized. Striking resemblance eh?

I doodled this for the kids after my magnificent revelation...

I think what I like most about Panini is that she’s appallingly nostalgic! I’m sure we’ve all had either our elementary school girlfriends and boyfriends, or at least had some kid who would constantly follow us, give us useless but sweet gifts, call us their significant other (though they may not have even known the meaning of the term), and would sob ferociously at the thought of you possibly being interested in Denise Gonzales, even though there was nothing going on between you two, and you just wanted to say “hi”, is that so wrong?!?! I just wanted to say HI!!!! GET OFF MY BACK WOMAN!!!
Oh, and she can cook… that’s a plus.

You know, I really haven’t been putting a lot of sketches up lately. So, here ya go:

Animales con attitude! I wanted to try a few different styles out by varying detail and expression: fat, skinny, medium; furry, smooth, and scruffy; and ugly, uglier, and Ben Stiller.

I love the way the giraffe came out! the walrus is okay, and as you can see, the squirrel is an epic fail! haha, anyway... Ben, thanks for inspirin me, bud ;)

Don’t you love English people? I certainly do. "Why" you ask? "Why in God’s name would you fancy the most vile, decrepit, slithering, heartless culture on the planet?"
My my my, someone has a few British issues; for shame! Well for one thing, they like eating weird crap… that’s pretty cool! If you mess up a meal by way of say burning the food or accidentally smothering the main course in pigs blood, you can still serve it to them provided you dub the wreck with a fancy name (i.e. yorkshire pudding, or haggis) and BAM! You’re a culinary genius!
Even cooler still, My friend Emma, (as seen in the awesome pic) said British Women come standard with an off button! Huzzah! Then again, even an angry English rant would sound pleasant enough to not even be a bother.
And my favorite thing about people from the UK… that’s right, the fact that many of our harmless euphemisms are swear words in their culture! Good show ol’ boy!
So take that Pastor Mike! The British aren’t so bad after all!

I forgot to mention that I was teaching art to my 8th graders and showing a few of them how to use photoshop. The girl was drawn by a young girl name Alexandra Martinez (14) and the boy was drawn by Michael Smith (also 14). It took them a lil while to complete these… so show some love!

So I’ve recently recognized I have an unhealthy affinity to cartoon females. I dunno, maybe it’s spring in the air, but I’ve now become quite certain that the girl I need may not be necessarily 3 dimensional… or in some cases… not necessarily human. Anyway, before you judge me, (you hypocrites), which of you dudes hasn’t had some crush on Lola bunny, Jessica Rabbit, Betty Boop, or the likes when you were a kid. Or Gals, what about Prince Eric from little Mermaid, Kit from tale spin, or maybe Aladdin? No matter, I’ve come to recognize that these harmless crushes, if not purely an indulgence of nostalgia, are completely the reflection of our ambitions concerning our own character and our expectations within the tangible realm of the spousal endeavor. In case you didn’t understand what I just said, not to worry, I’m not sure I did either. Any who, I’ve come to realize that the more I draw these feminine icons of animation, the more I can cope with the fact that on Thursdays and Mondays I curl up in a ball and eat HaagenDaas ‘til I throw up or passout indefinitely! So to Erin from esurance, Eve from Wall-E, Princess Atta from Bugs Life, and all the rest of my lovely animated ladies… this half-pint mocha almond fudge is for you!

In case you didn't know, I'm now a full time teacher and tutor with a company called Mathmobile tutorials and independent school! I’ve been with them for a little over 6 months now but I absolutely love it! This is the perfect "tent-making" career for me to keep myself afloat while I'm in ministry here in El Paso, TX! I get to practice teaching kids in menial subjects like English, History, Math, and so on… then I get to put those skills to use and teach the Gospel at CCEP! Oh… and these are the company owners, Mr. & Mrs. Singh.

Yep, the move to Texas was a successful one! I absolutely love the people out here but miss southern California scenery like the dickens! I’m workin at a shoe cobbler, a fine-dining steakhouse, teaching swing dancing in a ballroom at which we hope to begin a swing social, and I volunteer the rest of my time off to church (first and foremost), then to the humane society and shelters. Needless to say, I’m a very busy hombre. I’m waiting for my passport so I can begin missions to Juarez. Other than that, I’m still workin on the book, designing a new shirt for the church, rehabilitating dogs and training people! Hooray fun stuff!

p.s. out here they call me the dog whisperer ;) haha

welp, here's a quick shot of something I really haven't had any time for... well, funny, actually, neither videogames nor drawing, so pick one or the other and you'll come to the same accurate assumption of my bum-ness this past month or so. I've been workin my Mexican Butt off this past month tryin to arrange the finality of my Texas move. Yeah thass right! I’m movin to Texas! Actually I’ve already moved...haha. I came back for my second load of stuff and got stranded here when my car broke down! So here I’ll be in good ol’ traffic ridden, gas guzzlin’ californi-ay til my car’s all better... or until the cows come home... which ever gets me back home sooner. Ohyeah, here’s a drawing.

Man, where have I been?! I don’t even know! Welp, I got some news for those of you who I’m not directly connected to… you’ll read more about that in another post. As for what I’ve been doin in the meantime… ummm… ya, let’s do another post for that one too ;) . So what do I have for all both of my fans today… nothing.

But if you don’t mind reading a post about what I did for someone else, well then you came to the right place! Here’s a colorful piece from Dan’s buh-roke period… eheh… sorry. So I have a friend of a friend, and if you haven’t lost interest yet then I have a pleasant suprise for you… she, yes she, played Lumiere in a major Broadway production of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ , albeit Broaway and 2nd st. in Vista, CA, the name still holds some weight, whaddaya want. Anyway, her professional cross-dressing success inspired me to design a birthday card commemorating the legend that will live on as I discovered lumiere was, in fact, a girl. (I knew it!)

The card read: “Unfortunately, Lumiere’s impression of Madi (that’s her name) wasn’t quite as appreciated” the card opened adding, “Happy Birthday Madi! – the best gender-confused candelabra of them all!”

I don’t know if I quite captured the full expressions I saw in my head, but I think I got my point across… French dudes look better as broads. (sorry feather duster girl)

well, if you read my blog, you would've seen the 'controversial' add I did for a pool party with a pig in a NOTW speedo and a naked elephant. Unfortunately, being a pastor in training, the drawing has gotten some negative attention, with comments rolling in sounding something like… “he looks pretty sketchy, you should dress him”, “I don’t think you should have this risqué of a pic on your site”, and “you still owe me 5 bucks!”… psssh, everyone’s a critic. Anyway, I thought I’d go ahead and keep my mom from grounding me somehow and add some fashionable clothes to this piece. (I don’t care how long ago you moved out, they can find a way to ground you well on into your 60’s!) Seeing as how I’ve been selected to do the semester shirt at my college and have recently changed one of the colors, I thought this would be a perfect time for a dual debut! So without further ado...

Shirt Design

This is a design I submitted for the shirt for my college's next semester. The theme is Daniel 12:3, (a particularly difficult address to remember, phssh 'dan 123') anyway, I looked up the word for righteousness in the original Hebrew and found something rather interesting! The word TSADAQ (which is on the front of the shirt) means not only righteousness but also justice and salvation! It also just so happens to be the word they use for Jupiter, which was perfect for the starry theme of the scripture. Anyway, they may need me to change up the colors a bit, but I’m still constrained to three tones at the max! SUXVILLE! But as long as it gets used for the semester and I get the satisfaction of seeing my design on the entire student body, I’ll be set ;). The sleeve has a pic of the constellation Leo with Daniel 12:3 written in hebrew over it. Oooh, quick lil’ side note, notice how hard it is to draw Jupiter that small with only three tones, it came out looking like a space hamburger!

Learning From the BIG BOYS!!!

I've been on an animation kick lately, and certain cartoon/broad style artists have been my inspiration of growth with my art. Primarily Shane Lewis, Tom Bancoft, and Harald Siepermann, all of whose blogs I read daily and attempt to mimic their style by attempting some of their more simple works. Of course I’m no where near as good as they are; these are trained professionals with degrees in art and design and I’ve only been drawing regularly for not even a year!

Here’s a flying pig I drew along with Shane Lewis’ instructional video, yeah, I know it doesn’t look exactly like it, but that’s actually a good thing. (please don’t sue me Shane)

You can see I completely jacked his style to do this pig in a flyer for a pool party. The caption above this pic read ‘bring your own swim suit’, (B.Y.O.S.S.) with an arrow pointing to the pig’s speedo saying ‘good’ and arrows pointing to the elephant’s censor bars saying ‘bad’.

Once again I used Shane’s postings to attempt a new endeavor in photoshop. I’ve never digitally colored anything besides all the effects I did in my play poster, I hope I’ve made my teacher proud ;)

I have a friend named Ashley Schatzinger who has made me some awesome beanies! They cost me the originals of both of these pictures which I drew specifically for her. They kinda pertain to some inside jokes we have...

this is the first one I drew for her for a blue beanie. We served together in the retreats that they had at the shool conference center as waiters and greeters. I actually got kicked off of the greeting team because I was known to 'goof around' too much when greeting the guests. I mean seriously, what's wrong with an grandois bow, a dozen or so different accents, a few hugs, and some festive singing and dacing to welcome the retreaters to their dining experience? The retreaters loved it, they called me the foreign exchange student!!! But, unfortunately, the retreat staff didn't appreciate it as much. (sorry it's a lil wrinkled)

I the show was hillarious! yeah, so I got a lil obsessed and got the bed set, posters, and all the collectables, even had my email address as LennyBaxter (the ppg compulsive collecter) but hey, at least It wasn't something lame like salor moon... pphhhssh!

Well, I've been working on a simple, stylistic creature to begin illustrating my children's books and I think I've come to a conclusion... MIGGLES!!! Yeah, I first thought of having him be a cross between eerie dark and innocent, basically a cross between Jhonen Vasquez and Elaine Bogan in concept. What came out was a furry little alien without a name. we thought 'Charlie' or 'Bucky' would be fitting but the answer came in a dream! (...actually, Amanda's dream) But nevertheless, the evolving project is now under the name Miggles. A work in progress but already winning hearts... the little playa ;p

ickchekh..... I was so close to not even posting this ugly thing, but it'll show progression at most.

So there is this character on 'Go Diego Go' called rescuepack, as you can see he's a spin off from Dora's 'Backpack' but he turns into stuff that'll come in handy throughout Diego's adventures. So I thought to myself... 'what if he turned into stuff that was... well.. a little more practical?' here's the result...

this one was fun. A friend of mine, named Ashley, bugged me for weeks to draw her a horse! i gave her a few 2 min sketches but she wouldn't take 'em! here's what she got when i finally got around to it!

btw, the main pic i have upo is NOT Jesus. I honestly don'tknow what Jesus looked like so I try to keep from drawing His face. This would be the Apostle Paul enchained in Phillipi, you can see the joy in his face for a reason. Brothers and sisters, set your eyes on the Lord and what can rob you of your hope of salvation and eternal perspective?

yeah, I figured I needed to post some more doodles I've done... here ya go...

here's a stupid sketch of a bunch baby Ashley Schatzinger with a baby J thrown in the mix just to make some trouble. I made the comment that it'd be cool to have a bunch of baby Ashleys running around and if there were would she give me one... she said yes! I can't wait!
Here's my friend Kai-Kai beating up the rapist that there is here in temecula. Some one needs to put that sucka in his place, might as well be her...

This is a sketch I did for my baby sister (Colie) on her 8th birthday, she said she wanted something with puppies, I think I captured that lil' princess just fine, hehe.

I've been involved with a play we’re putting together at my school. It’s called ‘A Beautiful Lie’ and is sure to be a treat to both the believer and seeker alike. Albeit not seeker friendly by any means, it’s very artistic and abstract. I’ll be touring with it over the summer and probably be hittin up Calvary Fort Lauderdale at some point (a very exciting endeavor if you know me at all). I have two roles in the play, an understudy, and I’m also the head designer. Here’s some concepts I’ve done for the posters…

My name is Luis Daniel Torres dela Fimilia Mexicana Queviva en California... but you can call me 'Dan'. I go by'Luda', 'Paco', 'Dan the Man', 'Dark Alley Dan', and many other intriguing aliases; but most often I’m referred to as ‘Delicious Dan’! No, there’s nothing sketchy about it, (hehe, get it? Sketchy? It’s an art blog… sorry) no, I always say ‘DELICIOUS TIMES’! So naturally I would acquire such a title. Anyways, I am a Christian first and foremost, going to school @ Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, CA. I love the Lord with all my strength, all of my mind, and all of my heart so you will see that none of my work contains any lustful, blasphemous, or otherwise vulgar content. I intend to eventually write children’s books and I may even end up illustrating them! Hence why my work will tend to be more cartoony.
